Call for Halloween Scripts and Festival Director!

The Post-Meridian Radio Players are proud to announce their 2016 Halloween performance — Tomes of Terror: Campfire Tales!

This year’s show will center around a group of friends telling spooky stories around a campfire, with one large ensemble cast where each actor gets a crack at narrating a spooky tale, while the other actors perform the story. And this is your chance to get in on the action!

We are seeking scripts that are original works, pastiches, or original adaptations of classic campfire tales and urban legends. Criteria for these scripts are that they must be:

  • scripted radio dramas including Foley FX (practical preferred over digital)
  • no more than 10-15 minutes long
  • based on stories in the public domain or for which the author holds the copyright
  • comprised of a cast of 3-6 characters
  • appropriate for an all-ages show — a rating of PG-13 is preferred (though we understand that a certain level of dark subject matter and gore may be necessary for these chilling tales!)

We are not looking for parodies or documentary style stories.

We ask that playwrights submit no more than two scripts for consideration, and are happy to consider pre-published work so long as the writer holds the rights. If accepted, PMRP pays $15 for the performance rights per script. In addition, the PMRP retains rights to record and sell recordings of the performance, but all other script rights (including ownership) remain with the author(s). As noted, previously published scripts may be submitted for the performance and PMRP retains all performance rights including director choice, casting and sound design. We also have a strong preference for scripts that aim for gender parity and/or have roles which are easily gender swapped.

Scripts must be received on or before April 30, 2016, and can be sent to PMRP Artistic Director Caitlin Mason at [email protected]. Anyone with any questions regarding the guidelines or any other aspect of the show can email [email protected].

We are also seeking a Festival Director for our show! The Festival Director will be expected to:

  • Act as the head of the Play Reading Committee
  • Choose the final script order for performances
  • Assist in the selection of directors
  • Liaise with the directors and producer during show preparations and rehearsals
  • Make decisions regarding any overarching artistic elements
  • Attend auditions and rehearsals as needed

The Festival Director would also be welcome to direct one or more scripts, though this is not a requirement.

Anyone interested in acting as Festival Director, please email Caitlin Mason at [email protected].
